One Trusted & Understood Step At A Time
You will be surprised what you and your horse can accomplish when asked for a little bit more, one trusted and understood step at a time. Asking for a little bit more is sometimes hard. It's like looking over the edge of a cliff, knowing you can jump to the other side - but actually getting there, that's a whole other story. That's where the trust comes in.
Absolut entered my life at the 2009 MFTHBA Celebration Show. I had been looking for a young prospect to bring on, and bring home to my empty stall. I had watched "Abo" as a 2, 3 and now 4 year old at the annual Celebration. He was so beautiful and moved so gracefully, he was hard not to notice.
His owners had asked me if I had found my next FOSH horse yet, then gave Bud & I the fantastic opportunity to purchase Absolut and take him home with us after the Celebration. I kept checking inside the trailer on our way home to make sure it was true, he was coming home with us!
From the moment I first took Absolut’s lead rope in hand, the trust between us began.
Abo is so pure and innocent, no past demons to battle. He has a rock solid and trusting base. He is bold, so curious and truly a lover of life and all that takes part in that. Abo taught me how to ride his wonderful performance gaits with the patience of an old school master. I would ride for hours and hours, feeling, giving, balancing. Then when given the chance to go where he wanted on slack reins, he'd take me right back out to our work area. Abo loves interaction any way he can get it, this horse makes me laugh every day...all the time!
After one of our summer work outs, I took him down our driveway to cool him down. On the way back, he chose the trailhead off the side of our driveway instead of the road back to the barn area. He had never been on a "trail" before.
Trust…..One step at a time, one yard at a time, one mile at a time. We were stepping "out of the box".
Trail rides around our community led to State Park rides, group trail rides, themed benefit rides, ACTHA Competitive Trail Challenges, AFTH Audition and now, AFTH National Finalist…what a year! Never did I image I would be able to do so many things with this versatile young stallion.
With every new challenge I present to Abo, he digs in so curious and totally soaks in the experience with big sighs of contentment. My flat-lander-sandy-ground Florida trail boy amazed me at how well he handled the Texas terrain and the new trail obstacles, he loved every bit of it! Like a child at Disney World, he approached everything with confidant wonder which delighted me to no end.
I feel that there is no limit to what Absolut can achieve with trust, respect and vision. He is a truly special horse, blessed with the blood borne talent and temperament that was passed on to him from his Sire and Dam. From the beginning, the people who took part in his life recognized this and provided positive outlets for him to grow and shine. Now he is shining brighter than ever, totally unique and totally Absolut Sunrise.
I feel so fortunate and thankful that this golden Angel has graced my life. I have become a bolder, more confident rider from this truly amazing horse.
Abo’s "Can Do" confidence has shown me that I "Can Do" too….. and made me step out of my safety box.
Wooo-hooo….what a ride!!!
ACTHA has opened the gates for us all to get out there and take pleasure in what our horses can do for us, and most importantly - what we can do for The Horse.
